Hello friends,
I cannot believe that I was nervous about this new adventure. I fit in so well here and felt so extremely welcomed from the day I arrived. It is day 3 of training here at my internship (which shall remain nameless on the internet). I feel like I have been here for weeks but it has only been 3 days...
It is so incredibly beautiful here in the remote mountains. It is so peaceful. We have absolutely no cellphone service. I have not been able to call anyone but we do have free WIFI at the office JUST during our training weeks (about 3 weeks). We are so busy though that I can only sneak off to the WIFI for a few minutes at a time. Once training is done and season starts, I probably will not be communicating or posting all that much.
The lady that makes all of our food at base camp is incredible! (That is actually an understatement). All organic food and so healthy (Unlike any other camp I have been to). I have had the option of avocado at almost every meal so far and I could not be happier. We had a storm come in last night that knocked the electricity out. I haven't had time for a shower yet and I've slid down the mud slide and gone caving the last two days....gross...oh well, I've gotten used to it already. We did get to see a huge fleet of awesome military planes fly over us while we were at base camp (there were about ten of them).
So far, we have done lots of lessons, practicing knots, CPR training, Epi training (we got to give each other shots. It was too much fun! I learned only to give .3 ML of epinephrine to the little adventurers), mud slide training (the mud slide is so fun but so cold!), KP duties, how to ration pull for trips, lots of initiative games, and caving training! (We went to Speedwell Cave where we spend a few hours crawling, sliding, and climbing our way through. It was the most fun I've had in training so far). I'm sure there is more that I'm missing because there is so much information.
All my peers and directors are lots of fun. Almost all of us have or had the same majors/degrees. We all talk about our adventures and classes we've had at school. I was surprised to find out that a lot of schools do semesters like ECOEE (but I'm still bias and think ECOEE is better *wink face*). It is amazing being around people that love the same things as I do. I have never seen so many chacos and tie die shirts at one time in my life and I absolutely enjoy it.
Signing off the WIFI now to do some survival skills training. Peace out, Fam. Love you all <3
